Talking Therapy enabling you to move forward through life's changes
DIANE WALLS

Prior to training as a counsellor and psychotherapist, I worked for over 20 years as an IT project manager within the corporate environment, and within education and social enterprises. Working closely with clients and staff within schools to 'think out of the box' in an innovative, creative and motivational way to achieve their potential requires many of the key skills that make a successful counsellor.
I am experienced in working with the following broad range of typical and specific issues that draw people to therapy including depression, anxiety – general and social, relationship issues, divorce, bereavement, trauma, abuse, sexuality, sexual problems, physical illness and pain, loss and bereavement, low self-esteem, body image, shame, phobias, issues at work/college/school, stress, suicidal feelings, isolation, crisis, infertility/miscarriage, parenting, twin dilemmas, anger, self-loathing, feelings of failure, feeling wrong and bad, and understanding ADHD and ASD traits. I work with individuals and couples. My particular areas of interest are origins of low self esteem and self worth, understanding adult ADHD and working with trauma using EMDR.
Alongside private practice, I also work therapeutically with adults, adolescents and couples at a well-established charity offering low-cost and affordable long-term therapy. I also offer supervision to trainee and qualified counsellors. I have previously worked as an honorary counsellor offering time-limited counselling within a University Counselling service and within a NHS Counselling service for patients with complex needs.
Professional registration
My professional body is the
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) where I am an accredited Psychotherapist.
I am also a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), a Clinical Member of the Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association (UPCA) and a member of EMDR UK Association.
You can find me in the list of therapists at the UKCP, reg. 2011165695 and the BACP, reg. 111103.
I am bound by the BACP Ethical Framework for good practice in counselling and psychotherapy.
My principal training is in Psychodynamic Therapeutic Counselling. In brief, it is derived from Freud and psychoanalytic theorists and aims to bring the unconscious into consciousness to help explore and understand how painful memories may have stayed hidden and look at the ways we may defend against them.
My Psychotherapy training has encompassed a further range of therapies that enable me to integrate them with my core training. They include Systemic Therapy (understanding family systems when working with individuals and couples), Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), and working with more complex presentations. This enables me to offer a broad range of techniques within my counselling work to raise awareness and understanding for some of the the issues that you may be experiencing.
My continuous professional development since qualification has included further CBT training, accredited Supervision training, Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Polyvagal Theory, ADHD Clinical Services provision and Psychosexual studies.
I continue to attend different training courses to ensure that I remain up-to-date with the latest developments in counselling and psychotherapy.
