Initial Meeting

I can work with you on a short or long term basis depending on what you want to achieve from the therapy. This would be discussed at our initial meeting which is an opportunity for us to explore the issues you are facing and agree how we can work together to alleviate distress and find a way forward.

 

For your first visit, it would be helpful for you to make a list of some of the things that you would like help with and feelings you may be experiencing.  You might want to consider some of the following:

 

  • Issues in your family or other relationships

  • Symptoms like changes in eating or sleeping habits

  • Anger, anxiety, irritability or troubling feelings

  • Thoughts of hurting yourself or others

 

We can then talk about any of these in more depth at the initial meeting to help us agree on areas you would like to focus on.  If we find it is not possible to find a way to work together, then I can also provide recommendations of other therapists who may be able to help. 

 

The therapy itself

This could involve working through past traumas, identifying unhealthy thought processes and patterns, identifying a path for the future, creating new coping strategies that work for your particular situation or just enabling you to offload when you’ve had a bad week.

 

Whether we meet on a short or long term basis, the ultimate goal is to help you find ways to understand, accept or deal with the issues that come your way.  This may involve coming to a new understanding or perspective, learning new skills or by processing underlying trauma which enables you to face issues on your own in the future.  Just by reading this you have already shown a curiousity to explore more, even if at this stage you feel unsure of where it may lead.  Whether your therapy goals are short term or in-depth work, clients who benefit the most from therapy attend every week and this is the type of therapeutic approach that I offer.  There are many different styles of therapy that may be effective, and it is important that you find the right fit for you.

 

At the intial meeting we will arrange a regular time each week to meet.  Each session lasts 50 minutes and we will review our work together on a regular basis.
